Alta Leonie 18 June 2016
Impressive result from Alta Leonie to go 8 seconds under the qualifying time at the Cambridge workouts on 18 June. Bee Pears writes ” Watching the Big Jim filly bowl around this morning, you could see she has grown even bigger, but Marshall points out the the growing has been really even. She would be closing in on 16hh as a late 2yo, and the length of her stride is impressive. With a bit more strength and experience, she’s definitely going to develop into a lovely 3yo and later a big, bold mare.” Read more on Bee’s blog here.
Robert Dunn’s high opinion and ambitious plans for Alta Las Vegas (Bettor’s Delight/Alta Camilla) were fully justified last night at Alexandra Park where the classy 3 year old dealt to a handy field in a p.1.57:6 mile rate. It was his third win to go with five places from eleven starts and total stakes earnings of $36,554. Of note, one of those placings as a two year at Ashburton in p2,1.54:8.
Check out our sale yearlings page where we profile his brother, Alta Maestro, by Art Major – he is outstanding!
Also check out the Mach Three colt from Alta Panache, Alta Bonanza, who is a race winning half sister to Alta Camilla – he is a first colt of the dam and powerfully built.
Alta Las Vegas won well at the workouts last weekend pleasing his trainer Robert Dunn who advised the following to Harnesslink Media.
Alta Michaela caught punters unawares again by winning at Hawera last Thursday, in a smart black type mile rate on the grass of 1:59.4 (fastest time of the day). The win dividend of $8 was very welcome!
She is a well bred descendant (by Elsu) of Ballie Hanover, a mare we imported from North America some time ago, who has left a host of winners both colts and fillies, on both sides of the Tasman. Eventually, she will make a fine brood mare as her bloodlines allow many options of sire consorts. Alta Surreal (Real Desire/Alta Camilla) got his second win yesterday Sunday 13th December on the grass at Wanganui. It was a good tough win after coming four wide from the back of the field to just hold on for a nose victory. His record stands at two wins and one place for four starts.
His dam, Alta Camilla, is proving to be an outstanding producer in the breeding barn. We are offering for sale an upstanding Art Major colt (lot 111) at the Australasian Classic Yearling Sale in Karaka on 27 February 2016. He will stand any inspection.
The weekend just gone showcased the ‘Alta’ brand, with 3 wins and 2 fine placings by horses bred at Alta Dream Lodge. To start with, the first two year old race of the season was run at Alexandra Park on Friday night and was comprehensively won by Alta Intrigue (Mach Three/Samantha Q) in a 1:58.6 mile rate with closing sectional times of 55.9 sec for the last 800m and 27.3 sec for the final 400m.
We have a very nice yearling filly by American Ideal from Samantha Q destined for the PGGW Australian Classic Sale on 20th February 2016.
Alta Las Vegas (Bettor’s Delight/Alta Camilla) was a good second in the NRM 3 year old Sires Stakes Silver final. His run was excellent, with the winner recording a 1:57.0 mile rate over the 1950m distance. The dam is proving to be a terrific broodmare- we are selling a standout colt (by Art Major) from her at the next Karaka Yearling Sale.
Alta Leroy (won) and Alta Michaela (third) both performed with credit on Sunday 29th at Manawatu. However, the piece de resistance was the tough win by Alta Ronaldo in the Geraldine Cup, also run on Sunday last. He galloped at the standing start, made up the lost ground going around the big field to lead until the final turn. In the run to the finish he fought off the several challenges, including two NZ Cup runners, to record a top win. More will be seen of the Alta Ronaldo, as he seems to get better with age. Note that Alta Ronaldo was orphaned at three months but more importantly is a Mach Three half brother to Alta Camilla.
‘Ronnie’ continued his grand form this season with a comprehensive front running win in the $50,000 PGGW Aged Handicap Pace at Kaikoura yesterday. His time for the 2400m of p.2.58:1 was excellent (equalled the race record). He now heads the rankings for the 4yr old Harness Jewels next May at Cambridge.
We are selling very nice yearling colts from half sisters to Alta Renaldo at Karaka next year on 20th February: Alta Camilla/Art Major; Alta Panache/Mach Three.
