Stud Season Wrap Up

The Stud season for us is complete for the 2017 season and we can reflect on an overall, very satisfying result of 5 colts and 2 fillies.

All mares have been bred to a good cross section of quality stallions which we hope produces sought after types at the 2019 Yearling Sale.

However, for the next three weeks our endeavours centre on preparing the current crop of yearlings for the annual Yearling Sale.

“Catching Up” News 22/7/17

It has been a while since we last posted but be assured that progress on “outfitting” the new property is complete with the stables now fully operational.

As the 2016/17 racing season draws to a close, we reflect on the superb winning form of Alta Maestro, a showy 2yr old colt by Art Major/Alta Camilla p.2, 1.53:3, 4 wins plus 2 places for stakes of $94,288.

Alta Camilla can now boast an enviable record of 5 foals for 5 black type winners, all registering in the best company in NZ as well as USA and Australia. After missing to a service by Bettor’s Delight in 2015, Alta Camilla is due to foal to Somebeachsomewhere early in September 2017.

We have a nice draft of yearlings for the next Australasian Classic Sale at Karaka on February 11 and 12.

  • Filly by Art Major/Alchemist (1st foal)
  • Colt by Somebeachsomewhere/ Princess Arts (1st foal)
  • Colt by Sunshine Beach/ Alta Panache
  • Colt by Alta Christiano/ La Jaconde
  • Colt by Mach Three/ Samantha Q

The next generation of Alta foals start to arrive in about 6 weeks time.

NEWS – Another “Alta” Win

On Friday night (11/11/16), Alta Michaela, picked up her fourth career win and first metropolitan win at Alexandra Park. And a good tough win it was, as she recorded an excellent mile rate of p.2.00:5 over the 2700 metre race distance.

While her future is in the broodmare paddock, she will continue to race for two months while in foal to our own stallion, Alta Christiano- he can now claim his first progeny win albeit the foal is still  “in utero”!

ALTA ORLANDO IS BACK!

Yesterday 19/10/16, Alta Orlando lined up in a C1+ pace at the Rangiora workouts and this is what trainer Robert Dunn’s website reported on the now 5 yr old’s win.

“Alta Orlando produces super run at the workouts-while he has been off the racetrack for going on two years, the former age group star Alta Orlando looked like a star of today in his resuming run at today’s Rangiora workouts.”

His times were excellent too, 1:58.0 mile rate, finishing his last 800m in 57.2 and 400m in 28.6.

We have a very nice Art Major/La Joconde yearling half sister scheduled for sale at Karaka next February, so keep a lookout for more progeny updates over the ensuing months.

Alta Breeding is on the move.

We recently sold our farm at 15 Wright Road and will eventually locate at 190 Waiau Pa Road on a 20 acres of bare land.
Presently, the new block is being fenced and plans are with the Council for the building of a stable block and hay/implement barn.

We are expecting to be relocated by the end of September (this year!)
