The Stud season for us is complete for the 2017 season and we can reflect on an overall, very satisfying result of 5 colts and 2 fillies.
All mares have been bred to a good cross section of quality stallions which we hope produces sought after types at the 2019 Yearling Sale.
However, for the next three weeks our endeavours centre on preparing the current crop of yearlings for the annual Yearling Sale.
Our first foal of the new season, and already a month old! As yet unnamed but known as ‘Felix’ around the place, he is a strapping colt by Somebeachsomewhere from Alta Camilla (so a half brother to Alta Maestro p2, 1.53:3, 4 wins, $94,288.
Alta Camilla will return to the court of Art Major this season. That mating will produce a full brother/sister to Maestro.
It has been a while since we last posted but be assured that progress on “outfitting” the new property is complete with the stables now fully operational.
As the 2016/17 racing season draws to a close, we reflect on the superb winning form of Alta Maestro, a showy 2yr old colt by Art Major/Alta Camilla p.2, 1.53:3, 4 wins plus 2 places for stakes of $94,288.
Alta Camilla can now boast an enviable record of 5 foals for 5 black type winners, all registering in the best company in NZ as well as USA and Australia. After missing to a service by Bettor’s Delight in 2015, Alta Camilla is due to foal to Somebeachsomewhere early in September 2017.
We have a nice draft of yearlings for the next Australasian Classic Sale at Karaka on February 11 and 12.
The next generation of Alta foals start to arrive in about 6 weeks time.
On Friday night (11/11/16), Alta Michaela, picked up her fourth career win and first metropolitan win at Alexandra Park. And a good tough win it was, as she recorded an excellent mile rate of p.2.00:5 over the 2700 metre race distance.
While her future is in the broodmare paddock, she will continue to race for two months while in foal to our own stallion, Alta Christiano- he can now claim his first progeny win albeit the foal is still “in utero”!
